A cool trick for how to dress a salad

Today I’m going to share with you a cool trick for how to dress a salad. I’ve used this countless times, and people always tell me how they can’t believe they hadn’t thought to do it this way!

A cool trick for how to dress a salad

Wait…what are doing?

Asked my husband as I was dressing a take out salad.

Um, dressing the salad?

Said me, looking at him, who was looking at me with amazement

That’s genius, why didn’t I ever think to do that?!

So of course I had to share: the perfect way to dress a salad is to put all the contents in a container, pour the dressing on the salad, close the lid….and SHAKE IT!

Just like the Taylor Swift song Shake it off , you’re going to shake the salad, just for a few seconds, you’re going to shake the container back and forth, and you’re going to be left with perfectly dressed salad!

Baby I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake

This method works perfectly on take out salads, you won’t have some parts of the salad doused in dressing while others remain dry. This method also works on salads you bring to work in Tupperware containers. Really, any salad you want dressed perfectly and evenly, just put salad and dressing in a container, and shake it back and forth, and voila!

Did you know of this trick?

I do the same thing! I think I got the idea from those McDonald’s shaker salads back in the 90s.

It’s such a great way to make sure that the whole salad gets dressing on it, not just one part 🙂

Wait… do people not do this? Ha. I feel like it’s the ONLY way to dress a salad! Every piece of lettuce should be coated in dressing…it’s only fair to the salad!

Thank you so much Jamie, it’s one of those things that makes salad eating so much better – plus, I don’t care if people look at me like i’m crazy when I do it out in public, as soon as they register what i’m doing, I see a little light bulb go off 🙂

I use the same method when i prepare cold salads without lettuce like chickpea or orzo salads. I then layer the ingredients in a Mason jar and shake. It’s great to bring as a lunch at work. No mess, no fuss.
